Frequently Asked Questions:

Is there anything I can do about the 28 day stand down period?

No. Everyone disqualified under section 95 of the Land Transport Act 1998 must be disqualified for this 28 day period.

You will have to consider taking leave from work, using taxis to get to and from work or employing a driver for that period.

Can I get my limited licence before I get disqualified?

If you are going to be (but have not yet been) disqualified for excess demerit points we can arrange for you to have your limited licence granted on the same day you are disqualified.

If you have not yet been sentenced for drink driving or dangerous driving, you can complete all the paperwork prior to the hearing but you will still have to go through the 28 day mandatory stand-down period before your limited licence will be granted. So long as all the paperwork is done, you should be able to get you limited licence starting on the 29th day after your disqualification.

Why is the service so cheap?

Because we are very good at our job and we think this is a fair price. Not only are we the cheapest in the market, we are also the best. Limited Licence Legal take pride in the service they can provide. You can choose to pay more, but you can't get a better or friendlier service.

Have you ever had anyone unsuccessful in applying for a limited licence?

It is possible the police will oppose an applicant from getting a limited licence on the grounds of public interest. This is only likely if you have had a huge number of speeding tickets, convictions for dangerous driving or a large number of drink driving charges. If you think it is likely from your driving history that the police will oppose your application, we suggest you go for the Ghost Written or Full Service package. That way we can advise you fully as to whether we think you are likely to qualify for a limited licence before you invest any money.

If you want us to put your application before a Judge we will strongly argue your case for you but we will charge you an additional fee for any written submissions we have to prepare to assist your application. Written submissions will cost in the vicinity of $250 depending on the complexity. If you have not told us about your driving history when we ask you will not for our full refund policy.

Can I apply for a limited licence without telling my boss?

You are under no legal requirement to tell anyone (unless you have agreed to do so by way of a private agreement such as an employment contract).  However, to get your licence approved we will need supporting documentation to show that you have to drive for work purposes or you will suffer serious hardship (usually this means you are going to lose your job). Evidence of extreme hardship is usually in the form of a sworn affidavit from your employer or at the very least a copy of your employment agreement.

If you wish to apply for a limited licence without telling your boss, we advise you use either the Ghost Written or Full Service package. That way we can advise you fully as to whether we think you are likely to get a limited licence before you invest any money. Feel free to discuss this with us and we will work to your specific circumstances.

Why would I use your service over another online service providing limited licence documents?

Because we offer better value for money and because of our risk free upgrade policy.

Is what I tell you confidential?

All your information will be kept entirely confidential. If you use the Document Only service we will only require your email address which we will not use for any advertising purposes or on-sell in any way what-so-ever.

If you are using our Ghost Written package, once we finish compiling your documents, having them approved and filed at court we will retain copies for three months in case there are any issues at court with your application being granted. After that date we will delete your file from our server. We recommend you retain copies of the documents we send you on your computer in case you need to  re-use them in the future.

If you are using the Full Service model then you are engaging a barrister to act for you and you have professional legal privilege. Under the Lawyers Rules Limited Licence Legal will not discuss your case with anyone except in very specific circumstances outlined in the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act. Your information will be retained for 15 years on an encrypted server. See our Terms of Engagement for further detailed information.

Why do you offer this service?

At Limited Licence Legal, we think all those who need and are eligible for a limited licence should be able to get one at a reasonable price.

We also respect your ability to do the greater part of the process yourself. That said, we understand time constraints can get in the way of doing your own application. That is why we offer a three tier system for getting a limited licence that doesn’t penalise you if you haven’t got the time to do the application yourself. With our service you can start as D.I.Y and if that becomes too annoying you won’t be penalised to upgrade to one of our other options.

We think this takes the risk out of using our online service and means you get a chance to fully understand this process without it costing the earth. Even our full service is extremely good value, but our basic document package with step-by-step instructions can’t be beaten.

Why are you better than other services?

We can only speak for ourselves, but we are supremely confident in the quality of our product and the service we can provide you. The major benefit of Limited Licence Legal is that you can try the D.I.Y version and if it doesn’t work out for you then you can pay a great rate for a full service option and not lose anything.
